The rains begin
magic rain
penetrating, soaking
rain of renewal
April’s gift
life magnetic
draws the rain
to seed
and root
spring quietly
explodes in the
cool dark of
earth’s embrace
expanding into
the light
breaking through
in leaf and green
leaf drinking sun
root drinking rain
life’s uprising
riotous spring
spark of magic
the rains begin

coffee in cups
writing maps to
transient moments
that glimmer
in quiet pockets
along the often
crowded freeway
of my rambling mind

Fire Ring
stones
sit
stand
lay
in the circles
where we planted them
we know them as relatives
each unique
beautiful
defining
at gardens edge
a world we grew from seed
of flower
fruit
root
leaf
a world that nourished
our children
and bloomed poetry
and music
in our inspiration
a world of ancient stone
and tender sprout
drawing life’s substance
from leaf mold
and rich soil
we gathered on
the forest floor
a world of sunlight filtered
through leaves
of maple
oak
ash
and elm
of soaking rains
prairie born
riding in
from the west
with long lingering voices
of thunder rolling
circles of stone
that began with
our fire ring
and grew to gardens
of wonder and song
